Recently I noticed many giving their URL as small shortented form sometimes no relation with their actual URL.That is with the help of bitly. Bitly helps you collect, organize, shorten and share links.bitly is available via our website, browser extensions, mobile web, and numerous third-party tools integrated with our open public API. All links shared via bitly allow users to view complete, real-time traffic and analytics data. bitly also powers more than 10,000 custom short URLs and offers an enterprise analytics service that helps web publishers and brands grow their social media traffic.

You need to sign up for the service and provide username,e-mail address,and password.They type your URL and they will provide your new URL.They also provide service to cutomize your own way to write your URL.Otherwise they provide the name .Now you can find me on http://bit.ly/ovku4N.

UNIX : How to get record count from zipped file

Sometimes we may need to get records count from file . For that we can use wc -l , command with file name. In some situation the file will be in compressed format . wc -l will not directly work with zipped files . In this case we can do zcat the file and pipe the word count command with it. Example : Let say we have a file cricketData.dat.gz To get word count from the file use : zcat cricketData.dat.gz | wc -l This will give the record count.
